Mrs. Terrie Gerolimatos’ second grade class learned about the destruction and devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey and decided they wanted to help.

In class this year, the second graders have been learning about Matthew 5:13-16 in correlation with our All-School theme, Salt and Light. They have learned that the Lord calls his followers to be a city on a hill, an example to others, and to fill this world with the word of the Lord. The message definitely seems to be setting in.

Second grader Will Bell said that he would like kids who have been hurt or displaced by Hurricane Harvey to know that “God is going to help them, and maybe He will move the storm.”

In partnership with Mrs. Gerolimatos’ church, and Black Mountain’s Hearts with Hands organization, the second grade class will donate canned and dry goods, toiletries, and hand-written notes to the victims of Hurricane Harvey. “I’m not sure what will happen in Florida,” Mrs. Gerolimatos said, “but we will try to do something to help [them] as well.”
